The OPITO E-BOSIET includes an online learning method for the theoretical elements of the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET). The online learning has been developed to be accessed on all devices including smart phones, desktops, laptops and tablets. This enables you to prepare for the practical training at a location and time that suits you. Once completed the online part, a final assessment and one day practical training will be carried out at a training centre. This saves you a significant amount of time, while a regular BOSIET has a duration of three days at a training centre.
The four training modules in the E-BOSIET are same as a regular BOSIET, including safety induction; helicopter safety and escape; sea survival and first aid; and firefighting and self-rescue.
Upon completion of the course the delegate will have an awareness of the generic hazards and associated risks encountered when working on offshore installations and the generic safety regimes and safety management systems in place to control and mitigate risks associated with hazards.
The E-BOSIET (with EBS) will also equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond appropriately in the event of an offshore emergency and to enhance their survivability through proper use of emergency equipment and procedures.
This training programme is designed to meet the initial offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel new (or returning) to the offshore oil and gas industry who will be supplied with a rebreather emergency breathing system (EBS) during offshore helicopter travel.
Delegates must complete all online elements contained in the online E-BOSIET (with EBS) prior to attending an OPITO-approved training centre to be formally assessed against all learning outcomes.
There are no training prerequisites required for the BOSIET and EBS. At the start of the training the delegate should be:
- In possession of a valid ID (passport or driver’s license).
- In possession of a valid Oil & Gas UK offshore medical certificate.
- In possession of a Personal Safety Logbook, if applicable.
- Physically fit to attend the course.
The certificate is valid for 4 years.
